Fabrics Facts That Affect How to Care for Your Sleepwear
Before you can learn more about sleepwear care, it's important to understand the different types of fabrics used in sleepwear. Different garments will require different care instructions, so it's important to know which fabric your sleepwear is made of.
The most common type of fabric used in sleepwear is cotton. Cotton is a durable natural fabric that is easy to care for, and this one of many reasons why our pyjamas and sleepwear for men are made from 100% organic cotton! However, it’s important to note that cotton is an absorbent fabric and will absorb body oils and sweat. Because of this, it's important to wash your cotton sleepwear often.
Another common type of fabric used in sleepwear is polyester. Polyester is a synthetic fabric that is less absorbent than cotton. Polyester can sometimes be easier to care for than cotton, as it doesn't require as much washing. However, sleepwear made from polyester is not recommended and can have a bad impact on you and your sleep. You can read more about that in our blog post “The Benefits of Organic Cotton & Why We Use It for Our Pyjamas”.
As a rule of thumb, we always recommend buying and using sleepwear made from organic cotton. It is better for you, your skin, your health, and the environment!

How To Wash Your Sleepwear to Ensure Proper Care
Step 1: Check the Care Label
We know that there are people out there who tend to cut away the care label from every new piece of clothing they buy.
No matter how tempting it might be, don’t do it! The care label will provide you with all the specific instructions on how to wash and take care of your sleepwear. It's important to follow these instructions carefully to avoid damaging your sleepwear. And if you for some reason don't have the care label in your garment, you should be able to find a Washing and Fabric Care Guide on the brand's website.
We know that understanding all the signs and wording on a care label can be tricky. Here is a guide provided by I Hate Ironing which could be very helpful.
Step 2: Choose the Right Detergent
Once you understand the care label and the recommended way to wash and dry your sleepwear, the next step is to choose the right detergent. When washing sleepwear, it's important to use a detergent that is gentle to both the actual fabric, as well as your skin.
If you're unsure which detergent to use, we recommend using a laundry detergent for sensitive skin!
Step 3: Wash Your Sleepwear on The Gentle Cycle
Once you've chosen the right detergent, it's time to wash your sleepwear! When washing sleepwear, it's important to use a gentle cycle. The gentle wash cycle is designed for delicate fabrics and will help to protect your sleepwear.
We would recommend washing your sleepwear with other items of sleepwear, or pieces of clothing made from a similar fabric. Washing sleepwear with other items of clothing can damage the fabric and shorten the lifespan of your sleepwear. For example, the metal zip on your favourite hoodie might seem harmless. But putting it in the washing machine together with your organic cotton sleepwear could end in a disaster. And we do not want that!
Another aspect that is important to keep in mind when washing your sleepwear is to pay attention to the colour of the fabric. Always wash your sleepwear with similar colours. If your sleepwear is a light colour or pattern for example, do not put it together with anything dark as this can cause staining!

How Often Should You Wash Your Sleepwear?
The frequency with which you wash your sleepwear will depend on how often you wear it. If you wear your sleepwear every night, we recommend washing it once a week. However, if you only wear your sleepwear occasionally, you may be able to get away with washing it once every two weeks.
It also depends on the temperate of your bedroom and how much you sweat. If we are in the middle of a heatwave and you sweat a lot, you probably need to wash your sleepwear (and bedding) a bit more often. This will help to keep your sleepwear clean, fresh and bacteria-free.
How To Care for Your Sleepwear After Washing
Sleepwear care doesn’t stop once you take it out of the washing machine. How you care for your sleepwear after washing it, is just as important as how you wash it. Here are some tips on how to care for your sleepwear after washing.
Do Not Tumble Dry Your Sleepwear
Once your sleepwear has finished washing, it's important not to tumble dry it! Tumble-drying sleepwear can damage the fabric and cause it to shrink. Instead, hang it up and let it air dry (dangle from the drying rack).
By hanging your sleepwear and letting it air dry you will also prevent wrinkles on the clothes. However, if your clothing is still wrinkled, we recommend using a clothing steamer rather than an iron to remove wrinkles!

Remember to always make sure that your sleepwear for men is 100% dry before packing it away in your wardrobe or suitcase. Even the slightest dampness can result in a very unpleasant disaster!
Store Your Sleepwear Properly
Once your sleepwear is dry and clean, it's important to store it properly. We recommend storing your sleepwear in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight. This will help to keep the fabric of your sleepwear in good condition.
